Honeymoon pictures

The past two days I’ve been attending the Intermediate Fetal Monitoring class. Some good information was presented although I do think it would have been more helpful in the very beginning of my career as a Labor and Delivery nurse. And if the docs would take the same class so we can talk in the same language. Oh well…

Here are a few more pictures.
We begin our journey on the road to Hana. This is at the famous Hookipa Beach. Where all the windsurfers hang out.

We stop at Paia to pick up a picnic lunch and look what I found!

We found a wonderful gelato shop called Ono Gelato . I was very impressed with Paia in terms of the amount of healthy and vegan food available for such a small town. In the picture you see a scoop of lilikoi gelato which is vegan so I guess it’s more of a sorbet. They also have organic milk based ice cream. Matt got the Big Island Macadamia Nut Chocolate Chunk.

We see tons of waterfalls on the road to Hana. Here’s Matt in front of one. We tried to stop at all the famous stops but Hana is very humid and wet which means mosquitoes. If anyone read this blog from when I was in Michigan, I am highly allergic/sensitive to mosquito bites. When I get them, the bites swell up to double their size. After the first stop at Twin Falls and about a dozen bites, that put a stop to hiking to get up close and personal with waterfalls.
At the black sand beach, we stop to have our lunch. Yummmy… we have sandwiches, Aloha soda, and Hawaiian style chips.

After 5 hours of driving and stopping we get to Hotel Hana Maui. It’s a beautiful resort in the tiniest town that I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. I have just two pics posted here. I’ll put more in my next post because I just realized this one is huge.

Just a quick aside: I’m so glad that so many participated in this historical election. I finally got a president that I approve of in the White House. The proposition that sticks out in my mind is Proposition 8. I hoped that that one wasn’t going to pass. California had just stopped discriminating against gay and lesbian couples from marrying in June. I find it disheartening that Californians voted to keep discrimination a part of this state. I keep telling myself, it’s just 40-50 years ago that mixed couples could marry. What if Matt and I couldn’t get married because we were “different”? Just as these couples are. Only, I don’t think they are that different. They just want to pledge their lives and love together and have the same rights and privileges as every other couples do. We are taking a huge step backwards for civil rights. I hope we’ll all wake up soon and work to reverse Prop 8. I don’t know what I can do yet to help the cause, but I’m sure I’ll figure something out. And I will vote to overturn it when the issues comes back onto the ballot.
