A nurse who knits…

It’s my birthday!

Filed under: Life in general — yarnnut @ 3:59 pm

I’m officially in my 3rd decade. I turn 31 today. But I don’t feel any different. Some people have told me that turning 31 was harder than turning 30 but so far, this is not the case. Maybe it’s because my life hasn’t changd significantly since last year. Or because I don’t have kids to remind me that as they grow I get older.

I’m going to spend the morning knitting and drinking coffee. I started another Lucy bag in Paton’s Classic Wool. This time when I felt it, I will be monitoring it. Matt is working a half day and then we’re off to Los Angeles to see Wicked . Before the play we’re going to have dinner at Chateau Marmont. We’re leaving around lunch to beat the traffic. Isn’t that sad? We’re leaving 6 hours early to make sure we get to dinner on time. Non Angeleno (sp?) have a hard time navigating thru the mess that is LA traffic.

I’ll let you know how the play is tomorrow. I’ll try to take pics of celebrities. The hotspot is going to be Chateau Marmont but I feel funny bringing out the camera at dinner and snapping while people are eating. One of the docs at work told me that it shouldn’t bother me and that I can stealthfully take pictures at dinner by pretending to take pictures of my boyfriend while he was eating. He had us all laughing at the nurses’s station w/ that suggestion. Not really because it was funny but he’s such a serious man that it’s hard to think that he thinks about things like this. But I guess serious neurologists have to have fun too.

  2. We left four hours early to see a show in L.A. and missed the first act because we got stuck in traffic. So six hours early is probably a good call.

Happy Birthday! Mine is on Sunday. I’ll be 38, but I’m okay with it. I think people who get upset about birthdays do so because at some level, they realize they are not where they thought they would be or wanted to be at that age. The last time I freaked out was when I turned 30, and I think it is because I realized that I was “just a mom” when I had always figured I’d be some high-powered type (and was, before I had kids).

  3. happy 31st! i’ll be hitting my 30th in almost 2 months. and i saw Wicked in London… it was terrific!! Although, if you’ve read the books, it is a bit of a spoiler and probably not as detailed (so I don’t recommend reading the books before you see the play) =)

  4. Happy (Belated) Birthday, youngster! Knitting and drinking coffee – that is MY kind of birthday (perhaps cocktails, later)

  5. Happy belated birthday!! I am also 31. Some days, I can’t believe that I’m not still 25! It didn’t bother me to turn 30 or 31, but for some reason, I feel like 33 will be hard.

Hope you had a great day!
